How it all started....

The first Lynden Kids Market was held in September of 2008 in the Family Room at NCCTK church. The "idea" came to me when I was talking to a friend from Winona Lake, Indiana who raved about a community wide "Kids Market" that she attended every year. ( http://kidsmarketinc.blogspot.com/) So I got to thinking. Lynden is a community full of families who probably have unneeded, gently used children items. They could really benefit from a sale like this. We have local consigment stores, but a yearly event could really help out a community like ours.
So, with this thought, a friend and myself coordinated the first sale. We came up with a name for the sale, a logo was created by her brother, and we went from there. We found our first consignors by posting on Craigslist, hanging up posters, and putting info in the local paper! (this was before Facebook) :)
Since our sale in 2008, we've gone from safety pinning handwriten tags , to an AWESOME online inventory system which includes printing out tags on cardstock and using tagging guns to tag each item. The system is easy to use, and really cuts out a LOT of "busy work". We've also purchased "retail" racks, shelving, hangers and we have graciously recieved hangers from local stores like Old Navy, Macy's and Kohls.
The dream of Lynden Kids Market was to be able to hold the sale in a larger venue with an actual "market" feel, having several vendors selling children's items, in which we are accomplishing this year!
Our 2011 sale was our first sale to include local vendors! We had over 10 Vendors sign up with us! 36 Registered Consignors sold over 8,800 items in 2 days!
We are now gearing up for our 2012 sale! To date, we have over 25 Registered Consignors, and 12 Local Vendors!
We feel that Lynden Kids Market has come a LONG way from our first meeting in March of 2008. We have SO much to be thankful for, and so much more that I know we can achieve! Our community benefits from a sale like this and I enjoy coordinating it for our wonderful community!
We hope you will consider being a part of our sale whether it be by consigning, vending or volunteerng! Thank-you for checking out our website! We look forward to meeting and shopping with you!!
